Octreotide-saline solution (OS) may be useful in the treatment of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS) in infants. Four newborn infants with HPS were treated with an average dose of 5 mg/kg/day of OS via a nasogastric tube for 10 days. The mean duration of treatment was 20 days (range 14-28 days). All infants had a reduction in the pyloric diameter, with resolution of symptoms and normalization of body weight and serum gastrin levels. No side effects were observed. For Jerome Alexander, his decision to flee the Dominican Republic was more about self-preservation than about poverty or crime.
But even as he plots a return to the nation that welcomed him, Alexander, 24, an electrical engineer and fluent Spanish speaker, is still grappling with the fact that almost no one in his family shared his desire to come.
